Why Egoraptor is on the list:
At first, when I began to watch these sorts of movies -- "Metal Gear Awesome", specifically, by "Egoraptor" -- I thought they were mildly funny forays into the lowest form of humor; that is, absolutely random, uncontrolled events, and chaos. I say it is the lowest form of humor, because it essentially requires no thought to come up with a continuation of your "storyline".
Whether or not the story itself is coherent is, of course, a moot point. I understand this, and I came into this movie with that perception, and a hopeful open-mindedness in my heart. Unfortunately, like so many before him, this franchise by "Egoraptor" has completely jumped the shark. Then again, that statement presupposes that there was any shark to begin with.
The quality of humor in these particular serial cartoons, while never smart or clever by any means, was at least bearable back in the early days of "Egoraptor's" much-lauded submissions.
In those days, one could manage a laugh, even if one, such as myself, were completely unfamiliar with the franchise of video game being portrayed and parodied in the film. I suppose that, more than anything else, has precipitated the decline of the quality of these submissions, and the substitution of quantity for the quality.
In attempting to capitalize on earlier success, "Egoraptor" has built a glass empire out of shoddily-animated and increasingly unfunny concepts, appealing to this audience on Newgrounds for the sole reason that it involves video games -- the bread and butter of many poor, deluded lives that spend their time browsing "Egoraptor's" submissions.
In his lust for the limelight, "Egoraptor" cannot stand it when his submissions fall off the top-ten-of-all-time list of flash animations, and thus, continues to pump out these increasingly-unwanted rehashings of video game parody.
Metal Gear Awesome 2 is merely the manifestation of all the wasted potential that "Egoraptor" has poured into aforementioned empire. It has been coming for a long time, through ever-more-fleeting fame that each submission by "Egoraptor" garners, as more qualified animators fill the void that was once his domain.
I hope that this landmark will truly be when people realize that if this series ever had a shark, it has finally, fully jumped it. Then perhaps that glass empire that has been built, will shatter, and come crumbling down, to be replaced by a more worthy, deserving empire, reinforced with the steel of interesting and important serial animations, or perhaps stand-alone ones, that explore more deeply the potential that "Egoraptor's" flash experience provide for the Newgrounds community, at large.
"Egoraptor", I must stress, does not deserve the fame with which he has been granted free reign of this site, and the ability to destroy the delicate ecosystem of this site with more knuckle-dragging video game parody than you would find at a goddamn nerd convention.
And as I say, the only kind of fame that I despise, is undeserved fame.
